Description
ECOBOX began life as a design and prototyping commission for Google, who needed 150 eco-friendly meeting spaces for their new London Youtube HQ.
The commission was won by ECOBOX designer, Philip Arthur Clayden, who had already single-handedly conceived and prototyped the ARCHAUS building system (now known as the ARC), which is a pre-manufactured building system for arch-roofed buildings.Clients
Google UK developed their new European HQ for YOUTUBE at Kings Cross in London, where they used Philip’s system to provide over 150 soundproof office spaces on 5 floors.
Tasks
Google implemented a strict sustainability code, and required the system to achieve a high level of sound proofing. Philip achieved these goals within a demountable construction using a range of box modules for walls, windows, doors and ventilation elements. The system was constructed in the workshops of SolidArt Ltd and prototyped at Google under Philip’s supervision. One unit was fire-tested at the BRE laboratory in Watford.
